How Credit Works

BetterPrompt uses a credit-based system to pay for AI usage in a clear and predictable way.

This article explains, at a high level, how credits are used when you (or others) run prompts.

Credits and AI usage

Each time you run a prompt:

  • BetterPrompt sends a request to one or more AI models.
  • That request has a cost based on the model, input size, and output length.
  • Your account is charged in credits that map to this underlying AI cost.

You don't have to manage providers directly—the platform converts usage into a single, consistent credit system.

Where credits are used

Credits are typically consumed when you:

  • Run prompts from the marketplace.
  • Run your own prompts.
  • Refine the runs.
  • Trigger runs via integrations or automations like n8n that rely on BetterPrompt.

Some actions may be free (for example, during free trial, or certain models are having a promotional period), but in general, AI work = credit usage.

How authors and runners interact with credits

  • Runners spend credits when they run prompts.
  • Authors earn a share of the AI cost (10%) as author earnings when their prompts are run.

Credits are the unit that powers both sides:

  • They pay for the AI work being done.
  • They also determine the earnings shared back to prompt authors.

Free credits

All users receive 2,000 free credits each month, which automatically refresh at the start of every billing period. Free credits allow you to experiment, get started, and explore the platform without needing a paid plan.

There is also a daily usage limit of 100 credits per day on free credits. Once you hit the daily cap, you will need to wait until the next day for your daily allowance to refresh, or you can upgrade to Pro subscription for additional credits and immediate continued use.

Free credits are subject to change during promotions or trials, but you can always check your current balance and limits in your account dashboard.

Getting more credits

When you're running low on credits, you have two main options:

  • Upgrade or maintain a Pro subscription, which typically includes a monthly credit allowance.
  • Purchase additional credits as a one‑off top‑up when you need extra capacity.

Expiration

  • Free credits expire after 30 days and are reset to a 2,000 balance every month.
  • Credits received via a Pro subscription expires after 60 days, while top-up credits never expires.
  • Note: Premium credits require a subscription to use.

The next two articles Pro Subscription and Additional Credits explain each of these in more detail.
